MONTHLY TOTAL: 6
YEARLY SO FAR: 124

I finished The Daevabad Trilogy!!! In one month I read nearly 2000 pages, and that’s not including the whole three other books. I was very determined to finish the trilogy before the new year, and I did it!!! It…destroyed me emotionally and I’m pretty sure I’m gonna be in a book hangover for a good long while, but I did it!!!

I am currently reading:

Film Update

Audrie & Daisy is a harrowing documentary; I learned about it when I saw a tweet about the mother of one of the girls in the documentary having committed suicide. Both of the girls in the documentary were sexually assaulted, and both eventually committed suicide because of, not just the assaults, but the humiliating aftermath. It was a harsh look at how sexual assault was treated prior to #MeToo and all the major sexual assault cases that have been exposed in the past decade.

Then I rewatched Pride & Prejudice for the umpteenth time, and I LOVED IT JUST AS MUCH. God, the music started playing and I was just swept away. The visuals, the romance, Matthew and Keira, the music, I just. I love this movie so goddamned much.

Then, because I wanted more Matthew Macfadyen, I decided to watch The Assistant, but he was only in one scene, and though it was a good scene, the rest of the film was a bit lackluster. I understand why it was so slow-paced, and I get that it was purposeful to mimic the drudgery of the main character’s life, but I wish we’d had a main character who wasn’t so…passive isn’t the right word, exactly, but she was a little boring. Which, again, I get that the point is that she’s meant to be very ordinary, but still! Overall the movie was a little underwhelming and felt like there was a lot of missed potential.

Miscellaneous

I was so consumed with finishing The Daevabad Trilogy that sadly I did not finish the novel I wanted to finish, but that’s all right. I wrote…a little bit, and I broke through some issues I was having, so I feel like I can now continue writing, even if slowly. I feel like in 2021 my reading may have to take a bit of a step back if I want to write more, because I’m so often sleepy and groggy, and I need to expend my energy in more efficient ways.

Otherwise December was a pretty slow month! I’m looking forward to a new year of reading and TV watching and writing!

  1. I’m reading City of Brass right now! I’m about 100 pages in. Mixed feelings so far, but have been reassured by reading some reviews that suggest everything is flipped on its head about halfway through.

    1. Yes! My friend started City of Brass about two weeks ago and had the exact same experience; she was very meh until about 200 pages in and now she’s halfway through Empire of Gold and obsessed haha!

  3. Ah, congrats on reading the entire Daevabad trilogy in one go! I had mixed feelings about the first book (though I think I just picked it up at a bad time) and then really liked the second, so your 4-star rating of the third book is encouraging to see- I really need to pick it up before I completely forget what was happening! And perhaps I’m due for a Pride and Prejudice rewatch too, haha.
